Puttur, Jul 22: The police here took the conductor of a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus into custody on the allegation of allowing beef to be transported by his bus.
Beef was found inside the government bus that moves between Puttur - Harihara Balliugodu route. Bus conductor, Sunil (44), who is a native of Pashuvapura in Belagavi district, stands arrested.
The police, relying on the lead that beef was being transported by the said bus, recovered beef weighing nine kg that was wrapped and kept under the backseat.
The bus had left the town at 6.30am for Harihara Ballugodu, and the police intercepted it near Gudipila. During the search, the beef packed and placed below the last bench where arrangements for conductor's seat is located. The police, who got reliable information about beef being transported by this bus, checked the bus near Gadipila at around 7 am. Beef packed in a gunny bag was found near the conductor's seat of the bus.
