Puttur: Police keep eye on students using mobile phones

Puttur, Jul 16: Stern action is taken by the police after video recorded on mobile of the incident of gang rape of young girl went viral here. Police are keeping a watch on use of mobiles by students in Mangaluru and Puttur in particular.

Police conducted surprise checks in colleges in Uppinangady police station limits a few days ago and confiscated 24 mobiles. “Students were reportedly keeping their mobiles in nearby shops for a small fee. It is decided to prevent use of mobiles by students. Legal action will be taken if mobiles are found among students and kept by students in nearby shops,” warned Puttur assistant police commissioner H K Krishnamoorthy.

“A special campaign about use of mobiles in schools and colleges has begun. Police department has warned and conducted raids in schools, colleges and shops.

A special official will be appointed for the purpose. The official will create awareness about ill effects among children regarding use of mobiles among children,” he said.
