Karkala, Jul 15: “Continuing the pro-people work of former MLA and popular people leader late Gopal Bhandary, who instilled confidence in the tenants during the implementation of the Land Reformation Act is the real tribute that we can pay to his departed soul,” said former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.

Vinay Kumar was speaking at the condolence meeting that was held at the Manjunath Pai Memorial Auditorium in the city on Satuday, July 13 that was organized by the Block Congress committee in honour of former MLA late Gopal Bhandary.

Vinay Kumar further said, “Bhandary, who was fearless and pure in character has contributed immensely to the development of Karkala as the member of taluk panchayat and zilla panchayat and MLA. We have to tread his path of serving people with simplicity and honesty.”

Remembering Late Bhandary, former MLA U R Sabhapati said, “The life of Bhandary, who was a good legislator, is itself a model for all. He had immense knowledge about any issue. His knowledge was lauded by the then chief minister of Karnataka, S M Krishna.”

In his homage, former minister Abhaychandra Jain said, “Simple and honest politician late Gopal Bhandary was the one who taught the financially poor people to lead a life of self-respect. He served people without any greed of corruption or ego that he is a MLA. He was a real role model to the politicians.”

D R Gunaraju, president of Billava Samaja of Karkala taluk, said, “Late Bhandary is a great soul, who has left a lasting impression on the minds of commoners. His contribution in the formation of Hebri as a taluk is immense.”

M A Gafoor, chief secretary of KPCC said that a memorial should be installed in the name of Gopal Bhandary either in Karkala or Hebri.

Hebri block Congress presient Manjunath Poojary, retired CEO Prabhakar Sharma, retired excise superintendent Sadashiva Hegde, Moodabidri block Congress president Valerian Sequeira, Moodabidri city planning president Ratnakara Devadiga, member Suresh Kotian, former members of town municipality Naveen Devadiga, Naveen Suvarna, Sunil Bangera, M B Achar, Shyam Shetty, city Congress president Madhwaraj Shetty, former president of Karkala town municipality Subit N R and others were present.

Floral tributes were offered to the portrait of the late former MLA Gopal Bhandary as a mark of respect and honour.

Shekhar Madiwal, president of Karkala block Congress and Bipin Chandrapal compered the programme.
