Mangaluru: Tiled house gutted in suspected electrical fire - Loss estimated at Rs 12 lac

Mangaluru, Jul 11: In a fire mishap that occurred on the late night of Tuesday, July 9, at Tharethota in the city, a house got completely gutted.

The tiled house that stood by the side of NH 66, in which Victoria Mascarenhas (41) was residing on rent gutted around midnight. As no one was inside the house during the mishap, no loss to life has occurred.

Victoria Mascarenhas and her two daughters had been to Infant Jesus Church at Bikkarnakatte at around 7.30 pm on Tuesday and later to their relative's house. When they returned at around 12.30 am, they were shocked to see their house reduced to ruins from the fire. As this was an old tiled house, all the belongings that were inside the house are completely burnt in the fire. In addition, the wooden planks of the roof also were reduced to ashes.

Their neighbours, who noticed the fire had informed the fire service. The fire service personnel extinguished the fire. Kadri police also helped the fire service personnel in putting out the fire.

In the complaint filed at Kadri police station by Victoria, the loss is estimated at Rs 12 lac. It is suspected that electrical short circuit may be the reason for this tragedy.
