Mangaluru, Jul 10: ICYM Central Council annual elections of the diocese here for the year was held during the 72nd annual general body meeting at Milagres PU College hall on Sunday July 7.
The 72nd annual general body meeting and elections commenced with the holy eucharistic celebration. The main celebrant of the celebration was Yuvaspoorthi Fr Ronald Prakash D'Souza - director, ICYM Mangaluru diocese along with Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza – designated director, ICYM Mangaluru diocese followed by the 72nd annual general body meeting of ICYM Central Council Mangaluru diocese.
Jaison Periera, Shirthday – president, ICYM Mangaluru diocese welcomed the guests and the gathering. Fr Micheal Santhumayor – principal, Milagres PU College was florally welcomed with a bouquet by Fr Ronald Prakash D'Souza during the occasion. Fevisha Monteiro, Ranipura - diocesan general secretary, ICYM Mangaluru diocese read out the report of the 71st annual general body meeting and elections. ICYM Central Council diocesan election was held under the guidance of diocesan chief election Commissioner Fr Vijay Victor Lobo, procurator of Mangaluru diocese who briefed the rules and regulations pertaining to election process along with election committee members. The election was carried out smoothly and followed by lunch. The meeting was compered by Roshan Rocco – secretary, ICYM city deanery (2018-19).
After the post lunch session, the youth exhibited their talents through a cultural programme. The much awaited election with huge expectations, provided nail biting results which was announced by the diocesan chief election commissioner Fr Vijay Victor Lobo. The elected members are as follows:
Leon Loyd Saldanha, Bendore as president, Francis Monteiro, Siddakatte as vice president, Blairil Vishma D'Cunha, Cascia as lady vice president, Veena Vas, Shakthinagar as general secretary, Ajith Pinto, Permude as joint secretary, Vivan S Fernandes, Madanthyar as treasurer and Vijay Crasta Bela as auditor.
In the concluding ceremony of the meeting and elections, Jaison Periera, Shirthday – president, ICYM Mangaluru diocese welcomed the guests and the gathering. Fevisha Monteiro, Ranipura - diocesan general secretary, ICYM Mangaluru diocese read out the annual report of the year 2018 -19. The concluding ceremony was presided by Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru diocese who appreciated the youth for their collective work and service to society and addressed the gathering about Bandutva, Laudato Si campaign and environmental protection, water resource mangament, applauded the youth for accomplishing K2K mission with great success and said, "It still gives me goosebumps looking at the hardwork of the youth."
Lancy Dcunha – national president, AICU along with Fr Ronald Prakash D'Souza, ICYM Mangaluru diocese and Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza were present as guests of honour. The oath taking ceremony was administered by Fr Ronald Prakash Dsouza. Jesvita Quadras, Angelore – former national president, YCS/YSM India (2016-19) was honoured during the occasion for representing India at the International Youth Forum (Post Syndol Forum Meeting), Rome and Denzil Jerome Periera, Kelerai for securing a government job. Executive and council members of ICYM Central Council were felicitated for their selfless service during the year 2018- 2019. Meanwhile five wedded couples were felicitated for their selfless service in the past years as diocesan executive members. Seven outstanding youth achievers were honoured with 'ICYM Awards - 2019' for their achievements in various fields.
The youth achievers are as follows: Joyson Sandesh Lobo, Kirem in the field of Water Resource Management, Jaison Jeevan Sequeira - Gurpur in the field of music, Rayan Pinto - Moodbidri in the field of business, Neha Supreetha Suvares - Suratkal in the field of education, Flavia Jyothi D'Souza - Suratkal in the field of Science and Innovation, Neetha Braggs - Omzoor in the field of sports, Steven Wilson Goveas - Bondel in the field of self employment.
Top 10 best ICYM units were awarded Best Unit Awards.
The units are as follows: First place ICYM Madanthyar unit, second place ICYM Narampady unit, third place ICYM Venur unit, 4th place ICYM Moodbidri unit, fifth place ICYM Shirthady unit, sixth ICYM Bela unit, seventh place ICYM Maniyampare unit, eighth place ICYM Manjotti unit, ninth place ICYM Mulki unit, 10th place ICYM Ujire unit and ICYM Kirem unit.
On this auspicious day, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha inaugurated one to one and job opportunity programme as well as the fund raising campaign as a project for building houses to the poor families by releasing a CD which includes Konkani devotional songs. The Bishop felicitated the participants of Selfie with Soldier, Red Drop Campaign and awarded prizes to the awardees of poster painting competition organised by AICU in collaboration with ICYM and Mangala Jyothi. A portrait sketch of Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha was handed over to Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha as a gift on behalf of the youth of Mangaluru diocese.
Fr Ronald Prakash D'Souza and Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza were honoured on the occasion for their marvelous service as directors of ICYM Mangaluru diocese. Fevisha Monteiro, Ranipura rendered the vote of thanks.
Rohan Lewis, Madanthyar compered the programme. A total of over 400 youth were present at the programme which concluded with the ICYM anthem.
