Udupi, Jul 9: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, staged a protest in Udupi district against the state government and demanded that CM Kumaraswamy should resign from power.
Addressing the protest, Udupi BJP President Mattar Rathnakar Hegde said, “During the elections both the JDS and Congress were fighting among themselves. But immediately after the election results they joined hands together and came to power. In last one year there was no governance. None of the ministers have worked from their offices in Vidhana Soudha for a single day. Even the CM has also not been in his office and even in his official residence. He was staying at star hotels. By staying in star hotels, what governance he has done, he himself will know.”
Mattar also complained about the speaker’s attitude towards accepting resignation, he said, “Speakers attitude is questionable. He is now saying that the resignation letters should be given to him in person. Minister H D Revanna is busy in promoting 926 engineers. From this he may be collecting nearly 2,000 crore rupees. Today government is in ICU. The rebel MLAs have clearly said that they will not withdraw their resignations. BJP has 107 MLAs, whereas the coalition government has 104 MLAs, now the speaker should decide that who has the majority,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Udupi zilla panchayth vice president Sheela K Shetty said, “Today people of Karnataka are watching a circus sitting in front of TV. The father-son party is still trying to remain in power. People of Karnataka are ashamed of this politics. The 107 MLAs of BJP are united. Only a single party government can function in this state.”
Kuyladi Suresh Nayak, BJP chief secretary Udupi district, Prabhakar Poojary, Baikady Suprasad Shetty, Dinakar Shetty, Yashpal Suvarna and others were present during the protest.
