Mangaluru, Jul 8: Spandana Trust Infant Mary’s Convent Jeppu, celebarted Environment day/Vanamahosava and various types of plants were distributed to the people on July 6. About 300 people participated in the programme. Sr Marcelline Braggs presided over the programme. Fr. Richard D’ Souza, director, Canara Communication Centre, Mangaluru, was the chief guest of the programme. Sr Helen Fernandes, administrator of Spandana Trust, were on the dais.
The programme started with a prayer song and Hilda welcomed the gathering. Victor Vas introduced the guests of the day.
Fr Richard D’ Souza spoke on the occasion and said, “We may celebrate Environment day / vanamahosava and we forget completely, but we have to take care of the plant. Today the nature is destroyed that is why we are facing water crisis and other problems. We complain there is no place to plant the plants but if we have place in our heart and determination we can plant plants and grow the forest which will help us to maintain equilibrium of the nature.”
Symbolically Sr Marcelline Braggs and Fr Richard D’Souza planted saplings and distributed a few to the people present. The programme was compered by Margaret and vote of thanks was rendered by Surekha.
