Udupi, Jul 6: Hundreds of Karnataka government primary school teachers participated in a protest in Udupi by tying black ribbons in their hands. The protest was held at DC office Rajathadri, Manipal, on Saturday, July 6 against new Cadre and Recruitment Policy of the government.
President of Karnataka State Government Primary School Teachers (KSGPST) Udupi Ravi S Poojary said, “More than 500 teachers have participated in the protest rally. We have been recruited to teach from std 1 to std 8, but the government de-promoted us under the new policy by restricting us to teach from class 1 to 5. Those teachers who have completed graduation are teaching class 6 and 7 must be considered as graduate primary teachers. They should be promoted from PST to HST grade 2, and through this protest we are trying to pressurize the government and education department."
Following were the demands put forward by primary teachers association to the government.
*Government should promote all working primary teachers who teach between 6 to 8 class. It should give increment to eligible primary teachers & High school teachers .
*Direct Recruitment of teachers should be held on 75: 25 in spite of 25:75 ratio.
*Competitive exams for promotion should be cancelled
*Six subjective posts should be created for providing qualitative education.
*BSc CBZ graduates and Sociology graduates should be appointed in the Social science department and should be considered in Cadre and Recruitment rule.
*Physical education should be created before promotion of GPT working teachers.
A huge rally held by teachers began from the Syndicate Bank Manipal circle and ended in the DC office.
Honourary president Prashanth Shetty Havanje, K Dinakar Shetty Amparu, honourary advisor, Raghavendra H, Vasanthi, Ramachandra Vakuda, vice presidents, Deepa Shetty, Malathi Nayak, co-secretaries, Satish Poojary Vaddarse, treasurer, Organising secretaries like Harish, Jyothi Shetty, Lakshmi, Shwetha, Sukala and taluk presidents Ganesh Kumar Shetty, Manjunath Devadiga, Bhaskar Poojary, Savitha, Yashoda hedge and others were present.
