Goa: 'Orange Alert' issued by IMD, fisherman warned against venturing into sea

Panaji, Jul 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Friday issued an 'Orange Alert' from July 7 to Tuesday July 9, following heavy rains that lashed parts of Goa on Thursday.

The advisory states that 'Heavy rainfall at a few places with very heavy at isolated places is very likely to occur over north Goa and south Goa districts of the state. Rough to very rough sea conditions (with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph) are likely to prevail over west-central and southwest Arabian sea. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas from July 5 to July 8."

IMD had already issued 'Yellow Alert' for July 5 and 6. The 'Yellow Alert' stands for watch (be updated) while the 'Orange Alert' stands for alert (be prepared). Heavy rains are also expected in Maharashtra coast and fishermen were warned against going out to sea. IMD advisory says 'High waves in the range of 3.0 - 4.2 meter are forecasted during 17.30 hours on July 4 to 23.30 hours of July 6 along the coast of Maharashtra from Malvan to Vasai. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas from July 5 to 8'.
