Belgaum, May 21: After a KSRTC Volvo bus carrying 43 employees of Infosys Technologies moving to Pune overturned at Avandhi Ghat near Nippani, five persons died while eight others were injured. The injured are said to be responding well to the treatment.
The employees, belonging to Pune campus of Infosys, were travelling back after completion of a training programme at Mysore campus of Infosys Technologies. The accident occurred early morning at Avandhi Ghat near Nippani in Belgaum district, about 300 kms from Pune.
Four of the deceased have been identified as Tushar Aggarwal and Agnivesh from Bihar, Ankita from Delhi and Rakshit Malhotra from Noida. The fifth is yet to be identified.
Reportedly, the driver lost control over the bus while negotiating a steep bend on the ghat section. Three persons had died on the spot while two others breathed their last at the hospital. All the injured are undergoing treatment at KLE Hospital here. All the deceased were in the age group of 22 to 24 years.
Meanwhile Infosys has set up rescue operations at the site and support teams have travelled to aid the efforts.
