Mangalore, May 21: Kadri police on Wednesday May 20 arrested a woman in Bhatkal in connection with a theft that took place at a residence in an apartment complex in Alake, in the city a few days ago.
The woman has been identified as Durgamma (38) resident of Moodushirali in Bhatkal. Police seized 182 grams of gold ornaments estimated at about Rs 2 lac which were stolen from the apartment.
The apartment is owned by Dr Ganapathy Hegde and the theft took place on the night of Sunday May 3. The residents were at the hospital with an ailing family member when the incident took place.
According to the police, Durgamma revealed that she had been helped in the crime by the Nepali watchman of the apartment and his friends. She also has a record of unsuccessful thefts.
Police said that the gold ornaments were recovered from a bank and co-operative society in Bhatkal, Uttara Kannada.
Mangalore east police inspector Niranjanaraje Urs, sub-inspector Shivaprakash, assistant sub-inspector Vishwanath, head constable Karunakar, constables Prakash Vittal, Mohammad, Yashavantha, and Manjula, were involved in the arrest and the preceding investigation.
