Mangaluru, Jun 29: In relation to an incident in which a young man who was reportedly angered by rejection of his love-related advances stabbed a girl student and then tried to end his own life by slicing his throat, the attacker is out of danger. At the same time, the condition of the girl student is stated to be serious.
Diksha (20) from Deralakatte Bagambila, who happens to be a student of a private college at Karkala, was attacked by Sushanth (28), from near Rama Shakti Mission in Shaktinagar here. The girl student was walking towards her home on the road when she was waylaid by the man.

Diksha, a MBA student at Karkala, had as usual, got down at KSHEMA bus stand at Deralakatte and was walking towards home located behind the hospital when Sushanth who came from behind in a scooter suddenly attacked her with a knife. When the locals tried to stop him, he tried to end his own life.
The student collapsed on the road after she was stabbed five times by Sushanth. The people behind the hospital and hospital staff raised an alarm. Some people who picked up sticks and pieces of wood warned the youngster against stabbing the girl. Sushanth initially threatened people against approaching him by flashing his knife. He then continued to stab the girl who had fallen down.
A hospital nurse then pulled at him at which Sushanth suddenly sliced his throat and then fell on Diksha. He rolled over the fallen student. It is said that Diksha was stabbed 12 times by the attacker.
The hospital staff with help from locals, immediately admitted the girl into the hospital. A team of expert doctors are attending on her. The doctors said that surgery was performed on Sushanth, and that he is
out of danager.
City police commissioner, Sandeep Patil, assistant police commissioner, Rama Rao, Ullal station house officer, Gopikrishna, and Konaje station house officer, Raveesh, visited the spot and began probe.
It is learnt that Sushanth, a dancer, knew Diksha since about six years and reportedly he was in love with her. Diksha too has been undergoing dance training. Since the last some months, however, Diksha is said to be maintaining discreet distance from Sushanth. After she joined postgraduate degree course at Karkala, Sushanth had come near her college at Karkala and harassed her. A complaint had been registered relating to this incident there. What triggered Sushanth's fury now and reasons why he chose to stab Diksha repeatedly are yet to be ascertained.
A case was registered in Ullal police station. A video captured by the general public has now become viral in the social media.
