Mangaluru, Jun 28: Seventy-three Indians who had gone to Kuwait with the hope of carving out a bright future for themselves, are facing dire straits on account of non-payment of salary by their employer and non-return of passports with visas cancelled. They have been going through untold miseries because of delay in settling their problems. Many of them are from the city.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, has attracted the attentions of external affairs minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and ambassador to Kuwait Jeeva Sagar, to inhuman conditions in which these persons are living at Kuwait now without proper food and shelter.
The Indians stranded in Kuwait have no money with them as salary was not disbursed. They want Indian Embassy at Kuwait to organize their return tickets to India. Kateel has requested the external affairs minister to direct Indian Embassy in Kuwait to take up the matter with local authorities and arrange for the early release of the passports of these Indians and also to arrange for their return tickets to India.
The MP has also written to the Indian ambassador to Kuwait, urging him to evince interest in the case, provide relief they need to the stranded Indians and arrange for safe journey to India besides ensuring that they get their passports back and the salary due to them is paid.
