Youths stranded in Kuwait - Nalin takes up matter with minister, embassy

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 28: Seventy-three Indians who had gone to Kuwait with the hope of carving out a bright future for themselves, are facing dire straits on account of non-payment of salary by their employer and non-return of passports with visas cancelled. They have been going through untold miseries because of delay in settling their problems. Many of them are from the city.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, has attracted the attentions of external affairs minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and ambassador to Kuwait Jeeva Sagar, to inhuman conditions in which these persons are living at Kuwait now without proper food and shelter.

The Indians stranded in Kuwait have no money with them as salary was not disbursed. They want Indian Embassy at Kuwait to organize their return tickets to India. Kateel has requested the external affairs minister to direct Indian Embassy in Kuwait to take up the matter with local authorities and arrange for the early release of the passports of these Indians and also to arrange for their return tickets to India.

The MP has also written to the Indian ambassador to Kuwait, urging him to evince interest in the case, provide relief they need to the stranded Indians and arrange for safe journey to India besides ensuring that they get their passports back and the salary due to them is paid.

MP Nalin seems to be active in his third innings. Upon the intervention of MLA Vadavyas Kamath closely followed by his engineer friend in Kuwait, action was taken against the defaulting employer company which now stands closed and blacklisted. If Nalin has really written to the Indian Ambassador, it is the responsibility of the Indian Embassy to ensure the safe return of the victims. The Embassy maintains a separate Labour Welfare Fund to deal with such cases. The money for this fund (a small amount) is collected from every Indian for every service provided by the embassy. Not less than 500 Indians visit the embassy on any working day. In such case there should not be any further delay in their return.

Since there is no kick back they will not follow up the case. If there is kick back from contractors or from officers, every leader will alert and try to finish the work. There is no "anudhana" or release of fund from government nobody interested in the case. Best examples are the Mangaluru Railway Region, Mangaluru Railway Station, Pumpwell Fly over, Kulshekar -Karkala Highway, NH-66 etc. etc.

    Henry Misquith, Bahrain,
You are absolutely right. The Indian government will find it hard to find someone like Sushma Swaraj. She has helped many expats during her term. God bless her.

It is really disguesting to hear same old song from the people responsible ,and still wait and drink tee.Let Nalin or kamath, make fire in their back to indian embassador. Why so simple matter should take years ,months?First arrange Passport to come back.Pending payments you can talk about later.let them have some monsoon rain on their head and they can relax at home till you settled your long speeches. To hell with their salary.I think they are worried about their health and way of getting out .Atleast Indian ambassy can arrange food for them or not?wish them good luck and Godbless to comeout from their agony.
