Mangaluru Jun 25: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) revenue deputy commissioner Gayathri Nayak, health officer Manjayya and other officials conducted raids on shops at Central Market and seized over 300 kgs of banned plastic bags and covers, on Tuesday, June 25.

Raids were conducted at shops such as Mahesh and Co, Amarnath Enterprises and others where loads of banned plastic bags were found which were seized by the officials.

Speaking to media, revenue official Gayathri Nayak said, "The raid was conducted here at Central Market to seize sale of banned plastic bags which includes carry bags, plastic plates, glasses and many more plastic items. Despite the ban on use and sale of plastic, these items are easily available at many of the shops.

“Highest amount of banned plastic was found at a few shops. Hence, fine has been imposed on them. Some shopkeepers, even after knowing the law, are stubborn to sell these plastic items. So far we have found over 300 kg of such plastics in the shops we raided which will handed over to the environmental department. If they continue to sell the plastics in future, their licence will be cancelled,” said Gayathri Nayak.

If MCC officials really want to do some good work, then they must start vacating all unauthorized shops constructed in the place marked and given license for parking. All commercial buildings parking place converted to shops in the heart of the city . That is why all are parking their vehicles on the foot path and roads.
I am waiting for the day to see the action from these MCC workers.

Why hazardas items (plastic, crackers, colours) manufactured? Why can't we stop producing them? Throwing after producing is double waste and more harmful. If we do not produce them then there is no waste, no harm and no lose. Take the right steps from the beginning. It will be helpful for all. Thank you and God bless each and every one of us.

First learn what is the reason the plastics are banned and what kind of plastics are banned. Not everything is banned.

The plastic bag ban prohibits retailers from providing single-use, lightweight polyethylene plastic bags (less than 35 microns). so fishermen can still use the thick plastic bags .

Anyways these measures are taken to ensure our environment are safe . Later if something is wrong you will be the same person to leave a comment " why did not the government do anything before" when they are doing you have issue.

In India more than 45% are illiterates. Who give them lecture on plastics on microns. Earlier government not allowed them to go to school due to vote bank. Only given them low rate food...kerosene..other essential things. What they did with money..?? Looted wherever opportunity arises. Now modi trying to give somebody ek haath mein quraan aur ek haath mein computer. In it also congress demanding we need slaughter houses in each districts.
Hinghe Aadare Henghe...Awareness only able to happen in the society if people are educated. Otherwise plastic bags most of which either enter into stomach of cows on land and in stomach of fish in water.
