Mangaluru, Jun 25: A resident of the city had approached the police station to complain about a car having hit him and his friend when he was walking by the side of the road. He later tweeted to the city police commissioner, complaining that the personnel at the police station concerned had refused to receive his complaint.
In his tweet to the police commissioner, Likhit Rai, on June 23, explained that he was walking on the footpath opposite KSRTC bus stand in the city along with friends on Saturday night looking for an ATM, when a silver colour car which came at high speed seemed like trying to purposefully knock them down. He said that sensing danger, he and his friends escaped from being killed but the car had brushed the left side of their bodies. The incident left his and his friend’s hands injured, he added.
"When we approached Urwa police station late night the same day, the police refused to register a case. They said that these are normal incidents which keep happening, and sent us away by advising us against moving around at night," he stated. He said that disappointed by this response, he and his friend went home.
In response to the tweet, city police commissioner, Sandeep Patil, replied on the same day, duly promising to pay personal attention to the matter and to take appropriate action.
