Kundapur, Jun 23: Kundapur additional and session judge Prakash Khanderi found an accused guilty of murdering his sister in drunken stupor after she did not give money for him to buy alcohol. The sister had died in hospital after murderous assault.
Vijaya Bhandary (50), resident behind Kundeshwar Temple, Kundapur was grievously assaulted by her younger brother Annappa Bhandary (45) on July 22, 2018. Vijaya who was admitted to hospital had died without responding to treatment. Police had registered a case of murder against Annappa Bhandary. He was arrested and produced in the court. The court had remanded him in judicial custody and investigations had continued.
The accused was running a barber shop in Kundapur and was addicted to alcohol. He used to harass his elder sister Vijaya Bhandary for money when he was short of money. Annappa Bhandary had come home at night on July 22 and demanded money from Vijaya. When she refused, there were heated arguments between the two. Meanwhile he inflicted deadly assault on Vijaya with the knife found nearby. Local people who heard the screams rushed Vijaya to hospital.
Police then registered a case of attempted murder against Annappa Bhandary. However as the victim died in the hospital, the police later registered a case of murder against Annappa.
This is the first murder case that completed investigations within a year. The court has said that the sentence will be pronounced on June 28.
