Chikkaballapur, Jun 22: Former minister Veerappa Moily has joined his voice to the opinion of several Congress leaders that the coalition agreement was the cause of Congress’ loss in Lok Sabha elections. “Several Congress leaders had said that Congress faced setback because of coalition with JDS and Congress would have won at least ten seats,” he said. Veerappa Moily said that the party would have won at least fifteen seats if it had contested independently without partnering JD(S).
He said, “There was no overview of the reasons for the debacle after elections. People had a feeling that the government has not responded towards their problems. It is one of the reasons why the coalition parties did not get support.
“Maintaining the government has become hard now. Party is not organized. If Rahul Gandhi wants to resign, let him resign. But the high command has become weak. Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda had said that mid-term elections may be held anytime. The statement gave rise to several speculations. Deve gowda had clarified that evening that he was referring to elections of local bodies. Deve Gowda changes his statements the way he likes. He makes different, controversial statements each time.
“It adversely affects the coalition government. Members of Congress do not speak like that. None of the MLAs are prepared to face elections now. Nobody is confident of winning.
“BJP is trying to destabilise the government. Yeddyurappa is dreaming of becoming the chief minister again. He is day dreaming. Nobody is thinking of leaving Congress party,” he said.
