Beltangady, May 11: Even though overcast skies were witnessed in most areas of the twin-districts on Sunday May 10, Shiradi Ghat and Nellyadi regions alone received good rains on Sunday morning. Many places in the twin-districts which got rains on Friday night and Saturday morning, did not get any rains thereafter, except the above two areas.
In the meanwhile, reports from Kasargod said many people have been visiting hospitals either to get treated or admitted, on complaints of persistent fever. With the first rainfall, the possibility of spread of the infectious diseases looms large and shortage of doctors at medical centres has complicated the problems of the sick people. Large scale fever has been reported from places like Pilikode, Chervathur Nileshwar, Trikkaripura, Karindala, Ajanur, Kayyur etc.
There are complaints, that lack of doctors and other medical staff has been hampering treatment in primary health centres located in villages like Karindalam, Periya, Nileshwar and Chervathur. The people hope that the panchayats concerned will take immediate steps to spray insecticides and clean up stranded drains in a bid to stop spread of epidemics like malaria.
