Mangaluru, Jun 14: Award winning filmmaker Sandeep Malani has of lately back to back won 3 awards for his films. While his Hindi film on mother’s sentiment, ‘Maa’ won the Best Entertainer film award, his son Silver Malani’s debut direction short film, ‘Nishyabda Nishi’ (aka Silent Night) won the Critics – Special Festival Mention award at the 8th Bangalore Shorts Film Festival held recently.
And to add on and keep going, his short film on a transgender desire to be a mother namely Mamta (Maternal Love) was screened at the LGBTQ Shorts Film Festival at Missoula, Foxy Theatre, USA and has won the Audience Awards for the emotion content in the film.
What’s more, Malani had recently did a role of a Brahmin in the Kannada film Mookavismitha, directed by Gurudutt Sreekanth and the film has got him good reviews for his strong performance. The film is now going to make the festival rounds and will be screened at the prestigious Jagran Film Festival and Jio Mami Film Festival in Mumbai very soon. The film also goes with an English title, ‘Struck Speechless’.
Malani will be soon seen in a Hindi film ‘Elena’ directed by Shiraz Henry and stars Natasha Sikka playing the title role. The film, will be premiered on the Hotflix Digital platform this June. Malani plays a filmmaker who is very keen to have the actress play the title role in his film, but her husband stops her from doing any film and there is a reason to it that will be revealed in an 8 episode series.
On the work front, Sandeep’s digital series ‘SrideviBaaz’ and songs on her entire filmography ‘Naino Main Sapna Sapno Main Sridevi’ is doing extremely well in social media network.
Sandeep Malani is also the associate producer of the Hindi film, Shakeela that is in its post-production stages. The film starring Richa Chadda, Pankaj Tripathi and Ester Noronha is directed by Indrajit Lankesh for Magic Cinemas.
Currently busy with acting assignments, Sandeep’s forthcoming releases include the Kannada film, DD; Yuvaratna with Puneet Rajkumar; Rewind and Indian Cinema. And the Tamil films College Kumar and Pugalil Oru Iravu. Also he will be seen in the Telugu version of College Kumar. On the Hindi front is Mission Mangal along with Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha in which he plays one of the scientist in the Mars Orbit Mission. Mr Kishore Kumar, Divorced Happily, Filmi Rasleela are the others in the pipeline.
