Karwar, May 7: State director general of police (DGP) Ajai Kumar Singh felt, that there is no essence in the allegations being leveled against the police department in connection with the murder of Mangalore lawyer Naushad Kashimji. "The police personnel have arrested accused in the case. The court will decide about their involvement or otherwise," he added.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday May 6, he felt the action of the protestors in calling for a Bhatkal Bandh on May 8 is not justifiable. "We will try to convince the concerned that giving call for bundhs is wrong as per the orders of the Supreme Court. If they do not relent, we will provide security to manage the situation," he explained.
There is a need to recruit 7,000 additional personnel for strengthening the intelligence department. There has been delay, as recruitment rules are to be changed. The previous Pay Commission had been requested to consider the demand of the constables to increase their pay sympathetically. Even though their pay has gone up, it has not been to the expected level. Even though the department is convinced of the need to grant weekly off to the constables, because of staff shortage, this has not become practicable. The district superintendents of police will be asked to grant weekly holidays to all the constables, he said.
