Beltangady, May 6: The accused persons, who allegedly killed Jobi George (20), son of P M Thomas from Puttetpadavil in Neriya here, reportedly thinking him to be an animal, were arrested by the local police from Shibaje on Tuesday May 5.
C X Baby (26), a resident of Neriyakad House, Neriya village, who is the main accused and P J Devasya (56), who also resides at this address, were arrested and the gun used for firing the shot at Jobi has been confiscated by the police. Four guns, found in illegal possession of the accused, were also seized from them.
Jobi Geroge, who had gone to the Ambatamale forest on the evening of Friday April 24 for collecting bamboos required for making animal traps, had not returned home. The family, which launched a search for him the next day, found his body late evening on April 25, lying among bushes with wounds inflicted by gunshot and pellets.
It is gathered, that Baby who heard the sound made by Jobi, thought him to be a wild boar and fired at him. After realizing that they had killed a man, Baby and Devasya, who accompanied him in the hunting trip, tried to remove Jobi's body out but failed and then fled from the scene.
Circle inspector Y Gangireddy, sub-inspector B G Subbapooramutt and other police personnel have come in for lavish appreciation from the people here, for having cracked the case that had all the makings of getting closed in course of time, but for the efforts put in by them.
