Mangalore, May 1: The strong rooms at the Canara College in the city have been assigned to carry the burden and fate of candidates who contested for the Lok Sabha elections from Dakshina Kannada constituency.
Being custodian of storing the Electronic Voting Machines, the Canara College has been provided with tight security with police force guarding them round the clock. The seven rooms in the college are given to store the EVMs from 1470 booths from the Dakshina Kannada constituency.
There will be strong protection by the police team, a company of policemen from district armed reserves. They will be in 3 shifts to safeguard the strong rooms round the clock.
The senior police officials including superintendent of Police and top officials will keep visiting the strong rooms on daily basis.
The EVMs were kept in the strong rooms after de-mustering from the polling booths in the constituency. The seven rooms in Canara College are sealed, secured and protected from anyone entering these rooms.
The EVMs will be maintained with full security till may 16, the day of counting.
The Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj along with his officials for the electoral process will also keep visiting to the strong rooms from time to time to oversee the safety and security.
