Mysore, Apr 30: In a tragic incident that occurred at Balamuri Falls near Srirangapatna that is notorious for claiming lives regularly, Ratnamma (27) wife of Narayana, Udayagiri, Mysore, her daughter Umamaheshwari (10) and Shweta, daughter of Shivaswami (14) drowned in river Cauvery on Wednesday April 29 afternoon and died.
Narayana, his wife and two children along with Shivaswami and family, which lives in N R Mohalla area, had gone to Balamuri Falls of river Cauvery for a happy rendezvous amidst roaring water and scenic beauty. When the children got into the river water to play, Uma and Shweta slipped and fell into it. Ratnamma, who tried to save the children, was also dragged by the strong under-current. Another person named Ramu (32) who made an effort to rescue the drowning people, was grievously injured and is being treated at K R Hospital here.
KRS policemen have registered a case. The locals said no steps have been taken either by the police department or others, to advice and stop the tourists from venturing into the river water. They point out that the spot has whirlpools and it is dangerous to approach the river water near the Balamuri falls.
