'Mangalore Today' Editor Distances Himself from BJP Ads

Mangalore, Apr 29: Since the past several days, the news/advertisements appearing along with photographs, opinions etc., reportedly issued by several reputed leaders and common men are being published in dailies. These items sought to claim that 'Mangalore Today' editor and publisher V U George has supported the BJP and its candidate from local Lok Sabha constituency, Nalin Kumar Kateel. Photographs and statements of some other leaders like Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, also have found a mention in these news/advertisements.

However, George through a press release issued on Tuesday April 28, clarified that he has never supported the BJP nor has he ever endorsed its Lok Sabha candidate for Dakshina Kannada constituency Nalin Kumar Kateel.

"This is to clarify that I was shocked and dismayed to see my photographs accompanied by the opinion purported to have been issued by me, claiming my support to the BJP in several dailies. I strongly condemn this action and deny all that has been written in them," he has clarified.

    This is shocking. Election commission should investigate this matter and ensure that no innocent names are tarnished in the name of election gimmick. Further it is ironical that the name of a reputed journalist was dragged into the controversy for reasons best known to the political party concerned.
