Kaup, May 28: Moist oily sludge found in beaches near Kaup like that found in several beaches in Dakshina Kannada district has given rise to anxiety among locals.
The sludge was seen in sea shores of Kaup, Light house, Uchila, Ermal, Padubidri, Polipu, Kaipunjalu, Mattu and Udyavar. The sludge that comes on waves all along the beach looks unbearable. Tourists and those who are always in sea water daily are hesitating to get down to sea.
Assistant environment officer Pramila visited the sea shore and conducted inspection after complaints from locals of the sludge at the sea shores at Kaup, Moolooru, Uchila, Ermalu, Padubidri, Polipu, Kaipunjalu, Mattu and Udyavar beaches. Speaking after the inspection she said that the samples of sludge and water will be sent to locate the source to the laboratory of Karnataka state pollution control board in Mangaluru.
