Udupi: Fishing using mechanized boats banned for 61 days from Jun 1

Udupi, May 28: The union agriculture, horticulture and fisheries department in its official order banned fishing in west coast including Karnataka between 12 to 200 nautical miles at the sea for 61 days from June 1 to July 31.

As per Karnataka Coastal Fisheries Control Act, fishing through mechanized boats with inboard or outboard machines above 10 horse power is also banned for 61 days in Udupi coast.

Those boats and fishermen violating the orders will be responsible to pay penalties. They will also be ineligible to receive diesel subsidy for a year. A news release by the deputy director of fisheries, Udupi, has asked all the fishermen to follow the orders and cooperate with the government.
