Kasargod, May 27: On account of drowning of two persons from Kumble in River Netravati at Bantwal on the evening of Saturday May 25, Kumble town has been covered by grief.
Manish Kumar, second son of Manikanta - Jayanti couple from Ballampadi Muliyadka near Mujamgavu, Kumble, who was a ninth standard student of the government high school at Kumble, had attended a marriage function at Barimaru, Bantwal, along with auto rickshaw driver, Ajit Kumar, along with four other students. In the evening, for fun, the group ventured into River Netravati. Two among them drowned while another was rescued. The injured student is being treated in a hospital in Mangaluru.
The students from Kumble were members of children's club. They were to present a cultural programme at the wedding function.
Ajit Kumar, an auto rickshaw driver by profession, has left behind wife, Vanita and two children. He was a CPM leader, social worker, and secretary of Kumble regional committee of Democratic Youth Federation of India. He was also an artiste, and was secetary of a group of artists. The children were members of his group named 'Nattolima'.
Manish's elder brother, Manoj Kumar, who is a PU student at Kumble, was also injured
The family whose wedding the group attended was related to Ajit.
