Mangaluru, May 23: A large number of vehicle riders and passengers say they are very much inconvenienced by the diversion of traffic ordered by the administrator in view of security and safety concerns at the vote counting centre for Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency, which happens to be NITK Suratkal.
On Thursday May 23, the heavy vehicles have to take a diversion at Mulky and move via Kinnigoli and Bajpe to Mangaluru. Light vehicles have to take diversion at Chelairu cross near Haleangady and reach the highway at Munchoor cross. The people said this arrangement will give rise to confusions and problems for the people.
A private bus transporter pointed out that there is not enough space for the vehicles to move on Chelairu Cross from the highway. As this road is narrow, the movement of the vehicles will give rise to utter confusions and accidents, he felt.
Suresh, an auto rickshaw driver from Kinnigoly, pointed out that weekly market at Kinnigoly is held every Thursday and heavy vehicles coming from Mulky will increase traffic movement and result in traffic jams there. Narayna Karkera from Sasihithlu rued the fact that the people from Sasihithlu and Mukka have to take a detour via Chelairu, which results in additional journey for several kilometres.
The policemen say they are aware of the inconvenience caused by this unscientific arrangement. A traffic constable said they have to obey the orders of the senior officials in the department and hence are helpless to do anything else.
