Beltangady, Apr 18: “General elections come and go but political parties should always uphold their dignity. Besides, they should not engage in propaganda to tarnish the image of any party. The nation’s governance should not fall into the hands of the BJP”, said former union minister and Mangalore Lok Sabha Congress candidate Janardhan Poojary.
Poojary had undertaken poll campaigning at 15 locations across Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency here on Friday April 17.
“The top leadership of the BJP is in utter desperation. It’s difficult to remain honest and not corrupt in politics. Hence, the BJP is leveling irrelevant accusations”, said Poojary.
Poojary referred to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s comment during poll campaign in Mangalore wherein the latter had said that the nation had not seen an able Congress leader like himself.
Reiterating Vajpayee’s claims, Poojary said that Vajpayee is an able MP but the party that he belongs to is corrupt and illogical.
Moreover, the nation was in dearth of food and shortage of electricity during Independence, while the Congress led union government strived for the all round development of country, he added.
“Congress has contributed significantly for the development of the country”, said Poojary and solicited voters to cast their valuable votes for the Congress in order to achieve further growth.
“The chief minister B S Yeddyurappa can visit temples to pay obeisance while the BJP-led state government restrains Poojary from entering the temples”, alleged the Congress leader.
He called upon voters to respond to this injustice and urged them to cast their votes for the Congress so as to restore peace in the communally-volatile coastal district and to voice their concerns in the Parliament.
MLA Vasant Bangera, block Congress president Harish Kumar, APMC vice-president Subaschandra Rai, Rajashekar Ajri, taluk panchayat member Sharada Mahabala Poojary, former taluk panchayat member Srinivas Rao, Prashant Veigas, Congress leaders P K Sharief, Chandrashekar, Shantha, Sanjeev Poojary and others were present on the occasion.
Poojary campaigned in 15 locations across the taluk at Venoor, Naravi, Aladangady, Indabettu, Kolli–Kajoor, Somatadka, Kakkinje, Neria (Aniyoor), Kayartadka, Arasinamakki, Kokkada, Padmunja, Kalleri, Kaliya, and Guruvayanakere.
On the naxal issue, Poojary said that though the naxals are fighting for a social cause, their means of struggle is not justified. He said that they should first surrender their arms and only then would the Congress take up their issue.
