Udupi, May 21: A free mega complete denture camp was organized by IDA Udupi district branch in association with Health & Family Welfare department, Government of Karnataka, district hospital, here, Rotary Club of Ambalpady, in the city and A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru on May 19. The venue was at dental wing of district hospital, Ajjarkad, Udupi.
60 patients were screened for complete denture prosthesis in a single day. Out of these, 31 economically poor and holding BPL (below poverty line) card were selected for complete denture prosthesis.
The inaugural programme was presided over by district surgeon, Dr Madhusudhan Nayak. The dental camp was naugurated by the district health officer, Dr Om Prakash Kattimani by watering a plant.
Resident medical officer, Dr Chandrashekar Adiga and Dr Rakshith Hegde, prof dept of Prosthodontics, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru were chief guests.
Dr Manoj Maxim D’Lima, president of IDA Udupi district branch spoke on importance of complete denture and a smile on the face of every needy person who receives dentures free of cost.
"This programme needs to reach many needy people in the rural areas thereby creating awareness on importance of prosthetic rehabilitation for missing teeth. Saving a tooth rather than extracting and rehabilitation are very important."
Khaleel Ahmed, president of Rotary Club, Ambalpady spoke on the occasion.
IDA Udupi district branch secretary, Dr Syed Mohammad Faiz, treasurer Dr Sudhir N Rao, rep to CDH Dr Jasmine K James and 22 IDA Udupi district branch members took active part in organizing the event.
Dr Manjunath Mestha welcomed the gathering.
Dr Chaithra performed the invocation.
Dr Beesu Naika delivered the keynote address. Kruthi, counsellor for tobacco cessation at district hospital, Udupi compered the event.
