Madikeri, May 20: Three workers died after the aluminium ladder they were using to cut off the branches of a tree came in contact with live wire. This incident happened on Sunday May 19 at Doddapulikotu village within the limits of Ballamavati gram panchayat in this taluk.
Dayana Thammaiah (45) from Cherambane, and Anil (44) from Kasargod, Kerala, breathed their last on the spot. Anil's wife, Kavita (35), passed away at a hospital later. Sumita (32), whose condition is stated to be serious, stands admitted into the district hopsital here.
They were residents of a line of houses meant for labourers belonging to Karavanda Suresh, resident of Doddapulikotu village. They had gone to the plantation of Madeyanda Kunhappa in Ballamavati village nearby to work there.
The aluminum ladder they used to go up the tree for cutting down branches accidentally came in contact with power line passing nearby it is said.
Anil and Kavita couple had come from Kasargod seeking employment. Their two small children have been orphaned with the death of their parents. Thammaiah from Cherambane was married and he has left behind two children.
