Panaji, Apr 16: Congress president Sonia Gandhi alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) including L K Advani was piggy-backing on Rashtriya Swayansevak Sangh (RSS) in its political decisions.
Addressing a rally here in South Goa, Gandhi said that BJP is the party that depends on the RSS to take any decision.
Citing example that when BJP’s prime ministerial choice L K Advani went to Pakistan during the Kandahar issue, he praised Mohammed Jinah and thereafter had to step down on the advice of RSS.
She snubbed Advani’s allegations against Dr Manmohan Singh as weak prime minister stating that his own party is piggy-backing on RSS.
The Congress president appealed the people not to fall prey to the BJP’s gimmicks, as they were trying to divide the people on hatred and communalism.
“You can see for yourself what they have done in Orissa, Bihar and Karnataka,” she added.
Crediting Goa’s development to the Congress party, Gandhi listed various achievements like liberation from colonial rule, statehood and official language status to Konkani.
“When Goa chief minister Digamber Kamat brought to our notice the host of issue affecting the people of coastal area regarding coastal regulating zone (CRZ) and special economic zones (SEZs) and the mega projects which has been effecting the people, I immediately asked to scrap the project,” Gandhi said in her brief speech.
Gandhi assured special status to Goa, and safety to the people living in coastal belt, if UPA is voted to power in the country.
