Mangalore, Apr 16: Congress Party candidate for Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha seat Janardhan Poojary requested people to caste their votes in favour of his party to ensure that peace, harmony and developmental activities will come back to the region. He was addressing an election meeting convened on Wednesday April 15 at Urwa Store ground in the city.
“The Self Assessment Tax System implemented by the City Corporation is an unbearable burden on the poor people. As promised, the Congress ensured that this scheme was not implemented as long as it was in power. This is the way Congress functions and it deserves to be voted to power,” Poojary stressed. He pointed out, that on the contrary, the BJP which rose to power by promising not to implement the SAS and hike water rates, did quite the opposite after grabbing power. He reminded that when he had retired from the Rajya Sabha, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karant had commented, that a strong voice which always stood for the welfare of the poor people, was becoming feeble. "I will never bow before injustices," he announced.
Ex-mayors M Shashidhar Hegde and Sadashiv Bhandary, Kallige Taranath Shetty, M G Hegde, Suresh Ballal and others were present.
