Udupi, May 19: “Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed his life for the unity of the country. Gandhiji had led the freedom struggle of the country. The portrayal by BJP of Godse who had killed him as patriotic is a dangerous development. The number of people like Nalin Kumar Kateel who compare Rajiv Gandhi with Nathuram Godse and Ajmal Kasab reflecting on Rajiv Gandhi as a cruel murderer is on the rise. The way of such thinking may become disastrous for the country. The statement by BJP Bhopal Lok Sabha candidate Sadhwi Pragya Singh Takur that Naturam Godse is not a terrorist but a patriotic, controversial statement regarding Godse by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and statement by BJP spokesperson Anil Saumitra are the ones that are disastrous for the unity of the country. Therefore, those should be considered seriously.”

“BJP leaders are going for repeated controversial and anti-people statements. If Godse who killed father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi is a patriotic, all the terrorists are patriotic. The crime cannot be forgiven. People have the responsibility if the country should be identified in the name of Gandhiji or Nathuram Godse in the future. Supporting BJP which supports murders is an insult for the country.”

“Mahatma Gandhi who obtained independence for the country is responsible for Ananth Kumar Hegde for being union minister and Nalin Kumar Kateel for being MP today.

If BJP has even a little bit of respect of Gandhiji, Congress urges BJP to expel its leaders who give statements of country’s betrayal. Glorifying Nathuram Godse who killed father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi by BJP leaders is extremely condemnable,” said Udupi district Congress spokesperson Bhasker Kidiyoor in a press release.
