Kasargod, May 13: The inauguration of the new building of Permude St Lawrence Church is scheduled tomorrow, May 14.
Bishop of Mangaluru, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha will be welcomed at the entrance of the church at 9.15 am. The belfry of the church will be inaugurated at 9.30 am followed by the inauguration and blessing of the church at 9.45 am. The first mass in the newly constructed church will be offered under the leadership of the bishop. Permude church parish priest Fr Melwin Fernandes, Kaayyar Christ the King Church parish priest Fr Victor D’Souza, Dominican Provincial Fr Navin Saldanha, Kasargod diocese priest Fr John Vas, parish priests of various churches in Kasargod, priests who served in Kayyar Christ the King church, priests from Mangaluru diocese, nuns and Christian community members will take part.
Mangaluru diocese bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha will preside over the hall programme.
Permude church parish priest Fr Melwin Fernandes will welcome the gathering with an introductory address. ‘Permudecho Parzal’ souvenir will be released on the occasion by the bishop. The bishop, Dominican provincial Fr Navin Saldanha, Kayyar church parish priest Fr Victor D’Souza who set in motion the church construction project, building engineer Paulson Correa Ernakulam and Navin Rajith D’Souza who helped in the different activities in the church will be felicitated. Fr Melwin Fernandes will be honored on behalf of the parishioners.
Kasargod priest Fr John Vas, Puthige panchayat president Aruna j Paivalike, panchayat president Bharathi J Shetty will speak on the occasion, church parish pastoral council secretary John D’Souza will present the report, Kayyar Vijaya Christ the King convent superior Sr Montin Gomes, Puthige panchayat member Shanti D’Souza, Paivalike panchayat member M K Ameer Permude, Harish Bottary, Kayyar Christ the King Church pastoral council vice president John D’Souza, secretary Roshan D’Souza will be present. Permude Church pastoral council vice president Cyprian Denis D’Souza will propose the vote of thanks.
Permude church parish priest Fr Melwin Fernandes will chair the cultural hall programme at 6.30 pm. Kayyar Chirst the King church parish priest Fr Victor D’Souza, Paivalike panchayat vice president Sunitha Valty D’Souza, Dharmatadka Durga Parameshwari Higher Secondary School manager Shankernarayana Bhat, Kudalumerkala ALC School retired headmaster Abdul Khader will be guests of honour. Church parish pastoral council vice president Cyprian Denis D’Souza, secretary John D’Souza will be present. Dances will be performed by artistes in the vicinity. It will be followed by a tulu drama ‘Banjig Hakodchi’ comedy play by Manjeshwar Arts artistes.
Hore Kanike procession
A hore kanike procession will be held as part of the inauguration programme. Catholic community members and members of local groups will participate in the procession that will begin at Manitadka near Permude.

The chapel that started in Permude in 1972 with a history of four and half decades is getting upgraded as the church. The then bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza had announced the parish on March 19, 2018. The chapel which was under the control of Kayyar Christ the King Church became an independent chapel from July 1, 2017 and was handed over to Dominican priests by Mangaluru bishop. Fr Melwin Fernandes was appointed administrative director. Mangaluru vicar general Denis Moras had laid the foundation for construction of the new church on August 7, 2016.
