Hubli, Apr 9: Nasir Bagwan, who was earlier issued a ticket by the party bosses but was later asked not to file his nomination papers, defied the diktat of the party bigwigs and filed his nomination as the JD (S) candidate here on Wednesday April 8, amidst high drama and dodging the party workers, who were determined to prevent him from filing his nomination.
Bagwan had earlier succeeded in prevailing upon the leadership to make him the party candidate from Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency. Immediately on getting the ticket, he had given wide publicity of this fact in newspapers. However, in a sudden volte-face later, the leadership directed him not to file his nomination papers. When the district-level party leaders met him on Wednesday morning, he consented to respect the party's instructions but seemed to have changed his mind later.
Sensing that he might revolt against the party and file his nomination, several JD (S) leaders came to the office of the deputy commissioner to prevent Bagwan from filing his nomination in case he comes there. After waiting for long, they went back. However, just before the closing time and after the leaders left, Bagwan made a sudden appearance at the office and filed his nomination papers.
The party leadership in Bangalore confirmed that Bagwan had been asked not to file his nomination. Bagwan in the meantime, claimed that he had filed the nomination as per the instructions of the party leadership that had issued him a party ticket.
