Karkala, Apr 9: "In any election, launching of personal tirade against any candidate is not desirable. I believe in this principle and let us follow this principle scrupulously. At the same time, if any one uses foul language against me or tries to personally tarnish my image, I will give back in the same coin," said Congress candidate from Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency Jayprakash Hegde. He was speaking at a meeting of party workers held on Wednesday April 8 at Kisan Hall here, under the aegis of Karkala South Block Congress Committee.
Strongly rebutting the opposition criticism that Manmohan Singh is a weak Prime Minister, he said Singh is a man with strong valuess and firm stand. He is the one who strongly declared in every forum that Pakistan is a terrorist country. Because of his solid stance, India remains largely unaffected by the global turmoil and economic slide, he felt.
District Congress president M A Gafoor who presided, said Hegde was born in Karkala, studied in Kundapur and settled in Brahmavar. Hence, he belongs to all the three taluks of the district. Being an unanimous candidate, Hegde's success is assured, he stressed. Ex-minister Vasant Salian praised Hegde's contribution in carving out separate Udupi district.
MLA Gopal Bhandary said, that the BJP candidate who came fleeing from his constituency out of fear of facing the people of his constituency, can in no way match the personality of honest local candidate, Jayprakash Hegde. The workers should convince the general public about the achievements of the union government headed by the Congress Party and the failure of the state BJP government, to carve out a major win for Hegde, he advised.
Aveline Louis, Remedia D'Souza, Muralidhar Shetty, Vidyakumar Bunnu, and several other leaders were at the dais.
