Bangalore, Apr 7: The BJP has opted to replace its candidate for the Raichur Lok Sabha constituency, Raja Amareshwar Naik. In his place, it has nominated S Fakirappa, a relative of tourism minister Sriramulu.
As per the party's decision, Naik withdrew his nomination on Monday April 6, to pave way for Fakirappa to become the official BJP candidate from here. Amareshwar Naik made announcement of his withdrawal during the scrutiny of nominations. The party had expected this problem and had asked Fakirappa too to file his nomination to preempt any problems arising out of such exigencies.
Naik is facing charges of furnishing fake caste certificate and investigation is on. The BJP wanted to clear itself of any adversity his candidature might suffer, in Naik suffers any reverses in the case against him.
