BANGALORE, APRIL 5: AS many as 419 candidates of different political parties and independents have filed their nomination papers for the 17 lok sabaha constituencies going to polls in the first phase on April 23.
Saturday was the last day for filing nomination papers while scrutiny will take place on April 6.
Krishna Byre Gowda of Congress, Vatal Nagaraj of Kannada Chaluvali Paksha, K E Radhakrisha of JD(S) filed the papers from Bangalore South while Tejaswini Gowda Sriramesh of Congress from Bangalore Rural were among the prominent candidates who filed their papers for the first phase of polling.
Number of candidates filed papers in constituencies that would go to polling in the first phase are: Belgaum – 13, Bijapur – 15, Gulbarga – 16, Raichur – 14, Koppal – 22, Bellary – 9, Bidar – 48, Bangalore South – 43, Bangalore Central – 41, Bangalore North – 33, Bangalore Rural – 16, Chitradurga, 19, Chikballapur – 18, Chikkodi – 37, Kolar – 42, and Tumkur 19.
Three former Chief Ministers H D Kumaraswamy (Bangalore Rural), M Veerappa Moily (Chikballapur), N Dharam Singh (Bidar), Union Minister K H Muniyappa (Kolar), former Union Ministers C K Jaffer Sharief, B Janardhana Poojary (Dakshina Kannada), H N Ananth Kumar (Bangalore south) are among the prominent candidates who have already field their papers to fight the 15th Lok Sabha elections.
