Bantwal, Apr 3: In connection with an incident in which a woman from Modankap near here was forced to give her consent for divorce and driven out of the house for not agreeing for the same, the policemen belonging to the town police station here, have arrested four persons.
It is said, Meenakshi, wife of ex-serviceman named Vaman, who is now employed in a bank, reportedly faced mental and physical torture from her husband and his family, after she refused to agree for divorce. Vaman, a native of Vittal Nekkarekadu and Meenakshi had married four years ago and have two children. Since a year, Vaman has been staying alone in a rented house in Mangalore where he works. In a complaint filed with the town police station, Meenakshi said she had been facing violence from her husband and his family members, pressurizing her to give her nod for the divorce and that she was thrown out of the house for her refusal to comply with their demand.
The policemen have arrested Vaman (45), his brother Babu Moolya (53), Moolya's sons Vinod (21) and Sujit (22) in this connection. They have also registered case against Sundari, sister of Vaman, brother Sesappa and his wife Lalita. The arrested were produced in the court on Thursday April 2. They have been remanded to 15 days’ judicial custody.
