Mangalore, Apr 3: "Conserving communal harmony and decimating terrorism and underworld activities are the immediate challenges the policemen are facing. They have to fully accept these challenges before them with determination and devotion," advised western range inspector general of police Gopal Hosur.
He was speaking at the Karnataka State Police Flag and Welfare Day function held by the Dakshina Kannada district Police here on Thursday April 2.
"Police flag is the symbol of the power, capacity, discipline and patience of the policemen. The policemen of the district have testified to their capacity and potential by arresting suspected terrorists and Rashid Malbari, accomplice of Chota Shakeel from the coast. I congratulate them for this achievement. I wholeheartedly wish that they will continue to show their mettle as in the past," he added.
Retired police sub-inspector M Anand and Fr Muller Medical College Hospital forensic medicine department head Dr Uday Kumar participated as chief guests. Anand said in his address, that the policemen are faced with the need to discharge their duties in the face of extreme pressure. "They should work to ensure that the expectations of the common people who approach them for justice and protection are not belied. The police stations should become the terror points for terrorists and robbers while they should be centres of justice, reassurance and protection for the people," he stressed.
Dr Uday Kumar said, the duties of the policemen and doctors are similar in many ways. People come to them with lot of expectations, he pointed out. He advised the policemen to take proper care of their health. He asked the personnel of the department to avail of the free medical check up being offered to them at Fr Muller Hospital during the week.
District superintendent of police Dr S Subrahmanyeshwar Rao welcomed. Additional superintendent of police R Dileep proposed vote of thanks. 20 policemen who retired during the last year were felicitated on the occasion. Cash reward announced by the director general of police of the state recently to the policemen of the special intelligence squad headed by the district SP and policemen of the DCIBs of the twin districts, was handed over on the occasion.
