Udupi, Apr 1: JD(S) national president and former PM Deve Gowda arrived here at 3.00 pm on Wednesday April 1, as part of the Lok Sabha poll campaign in Udupi–Chikmagalur constituency for Third Front candidate Radha Sundaresh.
Addressing media persons at a private resort in Kaup here on Wednesday afternoon, Deve Gowda said that the LS poll campaign on the Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border constituencies such as Bijapur, Bagalkot, Chikkody, Haveri, Gadag, and Davangere, was already completed and it will be continued in Uttar Karnataka after campaigning at Mangalore, Udupi-Chikmagalur constituencies, Gowda added.
JDS party activists were advised to campaign for Third Front candidate CPI’s Radha Sundaresh in the district here. The meeting of both JD(S) and CPI conveners were held to support the Third Front while JD(S) will field in its own candidate in 26 LS constituencies except Mangalore and Udupi–Chikmagalur, he asserted.
When asked about the recent statement of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa that JD(S) has struck a deal with the Congress over the LS poll outcome, Gowda said, “It’s not appropriate to answer such a question, since chief minister B S Yeddyurappa is known for emotional outbursts”.
“JD(S) LS candidate aspirant Veerendra Kumar of Kerala was infuriated over denial of a party ticket to contest from Kozhikode LS constituency and has been asked to join in the campaign for Third Front. UPA is left with Congress, DMK, and NCP while other allies PMK, RJD, LJP and JNM, have already exited from alliance. Besides, BJD has deserted the NDA recently. Third Front aims to curb Congress and BJP from coming to power”, he emphasized.
“Both NDA and UPA that ruled the nation lacked genuine concern for the minority community and peasants”, Gowda added.
Gowda also visited the Jumma mosque, Kaup, near here, that was the epicenter of a recent communal flare-up in the area.
Azim, JD(S) spokesperson Y S V Datta, former MLA K M Ibrahim, JD(S) district president Deviprasad Shetty, Third Front Udupi–Chikmagalur LS candidate Radha Sundaresh, JD(S) state secretary Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, women’s wing leader Geetanjali Suvarna, Shalini Shetty Kenchanur and local JD(S) leaders were present on the occasion.
