Udupi, Apr 1: In a freak accident, a goods tempo laden with copra and coconut oil rolled over at Bada Yermal, near here, on National Highway (NH) 17, at about 7.00 pm on Tuesday March 31.
The goods tempo was plying from Mangalore to the city when the tempo driver lost control of his vehicle. The copra and cans of coconut oil were scattered all over the highway and a few locals took the opportunity to take the goods home.
The traffic on NH was disrupted for a while, with automobiles piling up on either side. The locals also used water to extinguish a minor fire which ignited in the engine chamber. The tempo driver and his assistant escaped with minor bruises.
Padubidri sub-inspector Mohan Kottari and other policemen managed to restore movement of traffic. A case has been registered in this regard.
