Bangalore, Mar 31: Police commissioner Shankar Bidari dismissed four policemen for selling a body to a hospital for research.
On Aug 3, 2006, the Madivala police received a complaint from a hotel manager that there was an unidentified body behind his premises. Without even verifying the cause of death or identifying the deceased, the cops decided to ‘donate’ the body to St John’s Medical College and Hospital.
When the son of the deceased, Kaverappa, found out the truth, he complained to the police. The department initiated an inquiry against the then Madivala police inspector G M Kantharaju, SI Vijay Kumar, ASI Nanjundiah and constable Adiraju. The inquiry revealed that after the post-mortem, the cops had registered a murder case. But the probe was tardy and the person, whom the police charged with the murder of Kaverappa, obtained bail within no time.
The four cops tried to defend their action, saying they planned to register a case after the post-mortem.
