Udupi, Mar 30: The inaugural of the district -level Yakshagana camp was held at Shri Krishna Math on Saturday March 28.
The event was organized by Yaksha Shikshana Trust.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Sri Sugunendra Teerta Swami, Paryaya Puttige Math, said that the people must follow Yakshagana which is a disciplined art form and teaches us to live instead unlike other dances which do not have any system.
Yakshagana in the present day lacks an audience as well as artistes, said Kumble Sundar Rao, president, Yakshagana Academy, presiding over the function.
The programme conducted to prepare the artiste at the grass-root level under the guidance of Udupi MLA is praiseworthy, he said.
“Yakshagana does not consist of a single principle and hence it must be implemented and cultivated according to the system. The Badagatittu art form is progressing in every situation but the Tenkutittu form is declining”, said Rao.
“The Academy is ready to transfer to Udupi district but is waiting for the governmental order. Udupi is better compared to Bangalore. The Academy also received more funds than in the past but do not own the right to spend appropriately. Hence, the member of the academy decided to meet the chief minister regarding the matter”, he added.
Dr Vijay Ballal, vice-president, Yaksha Shikshana, welcomed the gathering. Murali Kadekar, co-ordinated the programme while S V Bhat proposed the vote of thanks.
Members like Karki Krishna, Srinivas Sasthan, Chandrashekar Shetty, Krishnamurty Kavattoor and Talloor Shivaram Shetty, president, Kalaranga, were present on the occasion.
