Udupi, Apr 28: State government commerce department secretary and Udupi district in charge secretary M Maheshwar Rao said that suitable action will be taken for smooth supply of sand for people in the district. He was speaking after chairing a review meeting on drought situation in the district on Saturday, April 27.
“Sand is already being supplied from two blocks in non CRZ zone in the district through KRIDL. There was demand for 23,854 metric tons sand from people during the last two months.”
He asked district panchayat officials to call for tender to extract sand from three blocks allotted to zilla panchayats. He also asked to immediately decide for disposal of sand extracted already through dredging.
Expressing his dissatisfaction over retarded improvement of rural roads that were damaged due to natural calamities last year, he asked to expedite the works. He also asked to speed up UGD drainage projects in the urban area in the district.
“Several cases are pending before land justice board for disposal and a proposal should be sent to the government in this connection,” said Maheshwar Rao.
Deputy commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, additional DC Vidya Kumari and officials from various departments were present.
