Udupi, Apr 23: MLA Raghupati Bhat expressed concern over the issue of water supply to the city, which is becoming serious day by day for the fact that the Swarna river, which is the lifeline of water supply to the city is completely dried up.

"On one end the mercury is continuously rising and on the other the city dwellers are facing water shortage. The water in Swarna river is enough to supply the water needs of the city for the next 15 days only. There is silt formation in the river. If the city administration does not action in this regard, the city will face water crisis in the coming year also," urged Raghupati Bhat to the deputy commissioner of the district.

Bhat further said, "The work of clearing the silt in the river should be taken up immediately in order for the water to get accumulated in the river. In addition, the boulders in the river should be cleared to hold more water in the river during the rainy season."

The MLA also instructed the concerned officials to supply water through tankers to the public and also see that the water is not wasted. In addition, he gave a call to the public to use the water in limited quantity keeping in mind the present situation.

Members of city municipality Prabhakar Poojary, Manjunath Manipal and T G Hegde were present.
