Mangalore, Mar 24: On the evening of Monday March 23, it rained almost all over the twin-districts, differing however, in intensity. The soaring temperatures came down by a few degrees, bringing relief to the residents here.
The rain was particularly fierce in Sullia taluk, where speeding gales caused several trees to get uprooted at Sampaje, Ubaradka and some other villages. Tiles and tin sheets of houses blew away and areca nut trees fell to the ground. Those who were engaged in drying their areca nut crops, are facing problems.
The tiled roof of a home near the Church Cross in Beltangady blew away due to the ferocity of the wind. A tree that fell on a building too caused some losses. After an Acacia tree fell across the road at Kashibettu Ujire, vehicles moving on Dharmastala-Mangalore route were stranded for some time. In Malavantige village, the cowshed of a house was damaged because of a fallen tree.
The city received moderate rain. Puttur, Kadaba, Uppinangady, Bantwal, Udupi district and Kodagu district too received rains. Thunder and lightning marked the rains at Karkala. Some places like Aroor and Kunjal in Udupi taluk got only mild showers.
