Udupi, Mar 22: Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhat alleged that Congress leaders from the undivided Dakshina Kannada are engaged in spreading false rumours regarding the Kaup incident and ruled out the accusations concerning the failure of the police department to manage the affairs.
Speaking to the media here on Saturday, he said that the bravery of the police department should be lauded as they were capable of stabilising the burning situation and everything was normal within one-and-a-half-hours of the incident. Neither the police department nor the Home Minister is responsible for the incident and blaming them at the core of the issue sounds worthless. There is no point in the demand by the Congress leaders urging for the resignation of the Home Minister, he added.
KFD activists are responsible and stones were thrown from inside the Mosque. Police might have taken precautionary measures if they had any prior idea regarding this unexpected incident. Congress people are concerned only about the damages occurred to the minorities and never visited the Hindu people who sustained injuries in the attack. Congress is involved in vote bank politics to lure the minorities, he accused.
Bhat informed that an FIR has been registered alleging the indemnities and turmoil endured by the public. As many as 6 members belonging to Hindu community were injured in the incident—2 from Udupi and 4 from Kundapur. Vishwanath from Pethri has sustained severe injures in the conflict, he added.
The pre-poll preparations are in full swing as the party is intending to revamp its poll strategy right from the block level. District BJP Women Wing conventions will be held in all the five assembly constituencies of the district.
Udupi-Chikmagalur Election office of the party will be inaugurated on March 27 in the BJP office at Kadiyali. A media workshop will be organised for the BJP workers on March 25 and media coordinators of the party from Dakshina Kannada, Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Chikmagalur are taking part in the workshop. Congress is still in its primary phase of bringing out the list announcing the names of the contestants and this snail pace indicates the awkwardness of the Congress in countering the poll strategies of the BJP, Bhat opined.
CMC President Dinaker Shetty, Thingala Vikram Hegde, Katpadi Shankar Poojary, and others were present.
It may be noted that Bhat has been appointed as the spokesperson of the party for the Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency.
