Bengaluru, Apr 18: Heavy rain with blustery wind lashed several parts of the city on Wednesday April 17, and claimed four lives including a biker’s when a heavy branch of a tree fell on him on Outer Ring Road.
Several districts have reported widespread rainfall. The rain has inflicted huge loss in the city. Two each from the city and Doddaballapur lost their lives due in the incident.
The deceased, Kiran (27), a courier boy in the city, hailed from Kunigal in Tumakuru district. He was on ORR near Lumbini Garden on his way to Amrutahalli to deliver a parcel in the evening when the incident took place. An engineering student, Ashish, was killed after he tried to escape hitting the branch of a tree that had fallen across the path of his car at Hesaraghatta main road. However, he lost control over the vehicle, and hit a roadside tree, which resulted in his instant death.
Bhagyamma (45) and Venki (10), who had taken shelter under a pump house in Hosahalli of Doddaballapur taluk were crushed by the pump house wall crashing down on them.
Heavy rain also inflicted damages and losses in some other districts. The meteorological department has predicted rainfall to continue till April 20 because of thick trough and typhoon movement on the surface.
